Klun+ Peculiar Velocity Survey
The enhanced Kinematics of the Local Universe (KLUN+) galaxy sample is a collection of galaxies suitable for Tully-Fisher (TF) or Faber-Jackson (FJ) distance estimation. Here we extract a subsample of 6229 KLUN+ galaxies closer than 80h −1 Mpc, and calculate their distances and peculiar velocities with the Iterative Normalized Distance method. Within this method we can derive an analytical form...
متن کاملContrast and Peculiar Velocity
Concepts like peculiar velocity, gravitational force, and power spectrum and their interrelationships are of utmost importance in the theories of structure formation. The observational implementation of these concepts is usually based on the Newtonian hydrodynamic equations, but used up to scales where general relativistic effects come in. Using a perturbation of FRW metric in harmonic gauge, w...
متن کاملPeculiar Hubble Flows in Our Local Universe
A formalism that simultaneously searches for the monopolar and dipolar peculiar velocities is presented. The formalism is applied to (1) the Mark III catalogue, (2) Lauer and Postman’s Abell cluster catalogue, and (3) Riess et al.’s Type Ia supernova sample. The emphasis is drawn to the monopolar peculiar velocities, i.e., peculiar Hubble flows, within these samples. The samples show inconsiste...
متن کاملObservation of Gravitational Lensing in the Clumpy Universe
We discuss how inhomogeneities of the universe affect observations of the gravitational lensing; (1) the bending angle, (2) the lensing statistics and (3) the time delay. In order to take account of the inhomogeneities, the Dyer-Roeder distance is used, which includes a parameter representing the clumpiness of the matter along the line of sight. It is shown analytically that all three combinati...
متن کاملThe peculiar velocity field in a quintessence model
We investigate the evolution of matter density perturbations and some properties of the peculiar velocity field for a special class of exponential potentials in a scalar field model for quintessence, for which a general exact solution is known. The data from the 2-degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) suggest a value of the today pressureless matter density ΩM0 = 0.18±0.05.
